What The Six Nations Tournament Has Taught Us About Rugby

Britain and Ireland Have Produced Some Fantastic Rugby Players

Johnny Wilkinson (England)

The famous Fly Half is the highest points scorer in the competitions history with a total of 526. He also holds the record for the most points scored in a Six Nations match with the 35 he scored against Italy in 2001.

Shane Williams (Wales)

Was named player of the championship following his six tries during Wales grand slam win in 2008. His Six Nations tally stands at 21 tries and Wales won every Six Nations match he scored a try in.

Brian O’Driscoll (Ireland)

Arguably one of the best to ever play the sport Brian O Driscoll holds the Six Nations record for most tries scored with 26. He also managed to win three player of the tournament awards, winning the prize in 2006,2007 and 2009.

Andy Irvine (Scotland)

The Scotland full back dazzled back in the 1970’s with his blistering pace and has since been entered into the International Rugby Hall of fame.

Italy Are Not The Best At Rugby

Since their introduction to the tournament in 2000, Italy have finished last 10 times. They also hold the record for the largest defeat in the competition, when they were trashed 80-23 by England in 2001.

A Countries Size Is Not Proportionate To Success

Wales despite having a population of just over three million, have managed to win the tournament grand slam a total of 11 times. If you combine the grand slam successes of Ireland, Scotland and Wales, they have managed to win a total of 16 grand slams despite only having a population of around 13 million between them. In comparison, England, France and Italy have won 12,9 and 0 grand slams respectively, even though they have populations much larger.

Rugby Fans Are Extremely Passionate
