The 12th June is soon approaching and as everyone is hanging up their St. George’s flags and scrubbing down the BBQ, we asked our Twitter followers what their favourite World Cup anthem was for 2014. From Fat Les to local band heroes, the top five will certainly put you in the mood to sing our boys through to the final!
Roger The Mascot- Badboi (England What’s Going On?)
Time to cook yourself a fry up, put on your Reebok Classic and get toe tapping to this upbeat Ska tune. The fun football anthem from Nottinghamshire based band Roger The Mascot will keep you singing and dancing for a while whatever the score!
Gary and the Gang- Greatest Day
What happens when you put a shed load of celebs on a charity single? A fantastic World Cup anthem, that’s what! The pop fans among us will already know the words, and those opening lines of “Today this could be, the greatest day of our lives" will no doubt make those hairs on the back of our necks stand up if England should bring home the Jules Rimet trophy!
Fat Les- Vindaloo
Kick it… Vindaloo is the quintessential England anthem, you can sing as loud and as out of tune as you like after a few bevvies and do your best Keith Allen impression walking home.
New Order- World In Motion
One of the firm favourites among tweeters- especially John Barnes’ unforgettable wrap. This is a must have on your World Cup playlist. You’ll be singing for England (En-ger-land) all the way to the World Cup final.
Baddiel, Skinner and The Lightning Seeds- Three Lions (Football’s Coming Home)
When it comes to nostalgia, nothing beats Baddiel and Skinner. First released in ’96 and so popular it was revived for Euro ’98. You voted Three Lions as your ultimate World Cup anthem. “Football’s coming home" will be heard around the stands in Brazil and every pub and home in England for many football tournaments to come. Jules Rimet may gleam for us yet!
